Goethe-Institute Chennai in association with Travelling Lens has announced Chennai’s first international photography festival. The city’s first international photo festival is all set to roll from February 26th and proceed until March 13th, with a series of events designed to serve as a window for photographic art in South India.

A huge visual treat awaits photographers and photo-enthusiasts as the Chennai Photo Biennale will bring together photographers from across the globe, paving the way for a healthy interaction and sharing of ideas that will in turn give rise to a strong photographic community in south India.

The event spanning two weeks comprises of several print exhibitions, workshops, artist talks, symposium and curated projections. The event will kick off with the inauguration of the exhibition Urban Water - at Lighthouse MRTS Station. One of the core events, the Urban water exhibition is a culmination of work done by 15 photographers. The participants, under the guidance of experienced mentors, Munem Wasif (Bangladesh) and Ravi Agarwal (Delhi), have created bodies of work surrounding the issues of water in Chennai. The workshop was held at the Goethe-Institut in Chennai in January.

Also a selection of works from the Delhi Photo festival is travelling to Chennai . The exhibition at the Lalit Kala Akademi, will display works of legendary Indian photographers Kishor Parekh and Raghu Rai as well as emerging international talents like Sarker Protick from Bangladesh and Olivier Culmann from France on the same evening.

Yannick Cormier’s Surrealistic by Nature exhibition which will be open for viewing on 27th February , explores the ability of photography to engage with abstraction and searches for a middle ground between reality and poetry. Cormier, a French Photographer who has lived in Chennai for the past 11 years has curated this exhibition of seven photographers from around the world including the likes of Denis Dailleux(France) & Cristina de Middel Spain

In addition to the public exhibitions, a host of shows will open across the city’s premium art galleries such as Apparao, Art Houz, Focus and Forum further expanding the reach of photography to art lovers.
